Everything you love about Yahoo Mail on every device.
If you’ve ever tried to access Yahoo Mail from the mobile website, you know how awful it can be. There are layout issues, sometimes tabs are trapped in a perpetual loop of loading but you don’t know that because the animations are broken.
With the Yahoo Mail app for Android you’ll be able to quickly access everything in your account from all of your devices, customize your inbox, connect with other Yahoo services like Yahoo News and so much more.
The first thing you’ll notice after installing the app is that it’s taken a lot of design cues from Google Mail. You’ll have a tabbed layout where different types of emails (promotional, social, spam) go to different mini-inboxes that help keep your main inbox clutter-free.
You’ll still be able to mark emails and senders as important (just click the little star next to the email!) and you’ll still have the ability to block annoying emails too along the bottom pane of your email window.
One of the most interesting things in this version of the app are the mail themes. You’ll be able to choose from a variety of color schemes, lovely and fun design themes as well as create your own custom themes with a little CSS know-how, too.
Please note that this app works best on tablets; many users have reported that the interface can appear somewhat “squished” on older Android phones.
While we like the way this app looks, it leaves a lot to be desired in the functionality department. Many users have complained of the constant refreshing in the inbox when you navigate to the page (it won’t do this when you’re in one of the sub-inboxes), this can take several seconds to resolve and sometimes makes the app hang to the point of having to restart it.
Another issue is spam filtering – it just doesn’t work. Many users have complained on the official Yahoo Mail Facebook page that they often receive junk email in their inbox but have to go digging through the spam folder to find their mail. This is more of a problem with Yahoo Mail itself than a problem with the app.
Other than poor spam filtering and auto-refresh issues, Yahoo’s latest attempt at a mobile mail client is getting a lot closer to the competition. If you need to access Yahoo Mail on your phone or tablet, go ahead and check it out; if not, just use the website instead.

Check your email from your Android with the Yahoo Mail app.
This is an app that makes it easy to check your inbox or send an email to contacts or others who need to get information. You can set up the app to receive alerts when you have new mail in your box. This is convenient for those who don't have time to get on the computer to check email accounts. Sort through your contacts based on family and friends or those who are business contacts so that you send emails to the right people when mass communication efforts are made.
Pros
- Supports multiple Yahoo accounts
- Interface is more familiar for Yahoo users
Cons
- Nothing in this app is much better than what's in the default mail app
- Cannot perform every function the web/desktop version can
Yahoo Mail is the official application for Yahoo's mail service, to be used as an alternative to the default "Mail" application on the Android Operating System.
Yahoo Mail has been around for a long time, and as is customary for major mail products, the company decided to make its own mail client. While Android comes with a default mail client, this application is purportedly more feature-filled and has more Yahoo-specific features than the default app.
Yahoo Mail made an app that is not much better than the default app. It feels very clunky, and it's very prone to errors without much feedback. The interface doesn't make sense at times. Of course, this isn't to say that the default mail app is flawless. However, the Yahoo app does not even have all of the options available on the desktop version. For example, you cannot currently configure a vacation or away message on the mobile version.
The best feature in the current release is the ability to have multiple Yahoo accounts linked to the same app. This is ideal for business owners and people who have different email addresses for different reasons.
Currently, the Yahoo Mail app would be a waste of space on most peoples' phones. Unless you can find a specific feature that isn't on the default mail app that you need, it would be better to just go with that. It may be brand-specific, but that's about it. There are many other more generic multi-inbox solutions that will also meet your needs.
